We were heading north to Puy Du Fou, a theme park near Parthenay that we had heard so much about. The distance from Dordogne was too far to drive in one day in a motorhome and so we broke the journey at Bignac (6) , a small village just north west of Angouleme. Camping Marco was delightful. It is run by an English family who are keen to enhance the already excellent site. Pitches are on grass and are alongside a fishing lake. In season, there is a bar and café on site.

(above and left) views of Camping Marco in Bignac. There seemed to be plenty of space on the site and very relaxing. The village of Bignac itself is very small, no shops and mainly agricultural buiuldings. Not a great deal to see or do but the campsite is well worth an overnight stop.
On the road again next day, driving to Puy Du Fou. The attraction is close to the town of Les Epresses (7) which is 23km due south of Cholet. Puy Du Fou is a very large park which is an amazing spectacle. We had been told that we would not be disappointed. We were not, we thought it was amazing. Apparently, it has been voted the best theme park in the world by Americans!! Click on the logo (right) to visit the website.
If you wish you can book into any of the many hotels in the area. If you travel by motorhome then you park in the Aire de Camping Cars which is just outside the park. The Aire has space for 100s of motorhomes. There are limited facilities and a few electric points. Go prepared for a three night stay because you can easily spend 2 days in the park. A shuttle bus operates between the aire and the park at busy times but it is only a 10 minute walk to the park gates. The highlights of the day are the evening spectaculars which comprise music, lights, fireworks and hundreds of actors and horses. Do not miss the Cinéscenie which is usually held on Friday and Saturday evenings. We will not attempt to describe all that you will experience as that would take up many pages. We will simply say that it is truly AMAZING!!! There are no rides or fairground it is purely a visual and audio spectacular!! Below are just a few of the many photographs that we took. but you have to see it for yourselves. Put a date in your calendar and go by motorhome, by car, by coach of fly!

NOTE: We were not allowed to take photographs during the most spectacular event of Cinéscenie where the history of France is presented through a ‘son et lumiere’ presentation on a huge scale. Over 1,000 actors, 100s of horses, 26,000 costumes, pigs, geese, cattle, holograms, laser lights, music, fountains, etc., etc. Even if one was allowed to photograph the event, the camera would not do justice to the scene. As said before --- you need to see it for yourselves!
