2016 - Spain
We spent several hours exploring Valencia city centre and had to walk back to the station quite briskly to catch the coach back to the campsite. Below are a few snaps of Valencia.
(above left) Valencia City Hall (above) Keith and Fran in their posh frocks. (left) coffee break at one of the many cafés. It was just warm enough to sit outside in comfort. (below left) The main railway station from outside - very ornate. (below) Flower market in the main square. Note the lovely coloured marble which was the main pavement surface.
Back in Benicassim we continued to enjoy the good weather. Chilling out at the cafés or taking cycle rides along the coast or up the mountain. Keith and George tackled a couple of walks that had been documented by one of the fellow campers. (below) Panoramic views on the walks, Benicassim town is there on the coast.
(left) Some of the footpaths were a bit precarious in places> (below left) Dinner time at base camp when we were joined by Tony Herridge and his wife, Helen. They had popped into the site for a few days with their new Carthago. (below) The two old men, Geoff and George, waiting for the women to finish their shopping at the market.
(above left) Keith and Fran get in some Rock and Roll at the 70th birthday party. (above) Geoff carrying out his essential ‘blue’ jobs - love the apron! (left) the cycling team on their way along the greenway towards Orpresa. On a rather dull day we cycled beyond Opresa to another resort town, Marina D’Or. The resort was totally deserted although we could imagine it would be thronged with holiday makers in the high season. The town has some novel features, like the elephants on the beach. They are, in fact, showers (at the end of the trunk) to was the sand off when you leave the beach. Marina D’Or also has a very interesting beachside park. This is full of wildlife and the ponds have very large koi carp in them. The gardens must look amazing in the summer! There are also Salvador Dali type statues (see below) and mosaic benches - bit chilly to park your bottom upon at this time of year! The nice part about visiting when it is deserted is that you can cycle along the promenades without anyone saying you cannot do that!
Back at the campsite …… (above) The on-site kitchen staff (left) Planning Committee Meeting Sandra, Geoff, George, Frances and Keith. The concensus of the meeting was that we will all be here again in 2017 to get away from the cold and rain in UK.
